 Project 1 - Project Proposal

"The Problem Space"

In the bustling halls of SMA Riyadatul A’mal, formerly known as Al-Amin Entrepreneurship School, a pressing issue has emerged within the current educational system. Despite the school's commitment to nurturing young minds, several challenges hinder the seamless learning experience for both students and educators. These challenges encompass a wide spectrum, from the effective management of student performance to the facilitation of seamless communication among teachers, students, and parents. Additionally, the need for a structured and efficient homework feedback system, optimal resource management, and an effective discipline monitoring mechanism has become increasingly apparent.

The specifics of each problem faced by the school is as follows:

Student Performance Management (Usability Problem): The effective monitoring and management of student performance are pivotal in any educational institution. With the existing system of things being done manually, SMA Riyadatul A’mal faces the challenge of providing additional support and guidance to students who may be struggling academically. There is a pressing need for a system that can identify weak students and provide targeted exercises to help them improve.

Homework Feedback System (User-experience Problem): The school currently lacks a comprehensive and efficient system for providing and tracking homework assignments and feedback. A structured homework feedback system is essential to help students improve their performance and ensure that parents are informed about their child's progress. It's imperative to design a platform that facilitates the evaluation of homework that goes beyond traditional norms, allowing teachers to provide detailed feedback, and parents to monitor their child's progress.

Resource Management (User-experience Problem): Efficient management of learning materials is crucial in a school environment. Some students may not be informed about which materials to bring to school, such as the textbook of the day or special drawing equipment, and this leads to unnecessary burden. A dynamic platform is required to update students about the materials they need for each class, ensuring that they have the right resources at the right time.

Discipline Monitoring (Usability Problem): In addition to academic progress, discipline is a vital aspect of a student's growth. Currently SMA Riyadatul A’mal does not have a system approprite for this branch of the school that allows to monitor student behavior and discipline effectively. This system should be able to track and communicate merit and demerit points, allowing teachers to record and explain point deductions for minor infractions while fostering a culture of responsibility and accountability.

"Proposed Solution"

Name: RASS (Riyadhatul A'mal School System)

As we delve into the educational landscape of SMA Riyadatul A’mal, recognizing the intricate challenges that lie within, our proposed solution, aptly named "RASS," emerges as a beacon of innovation. RASS, or the Riyadhatul A'mal School System, envisions a transformative approach to redefine the learning experience by seamlessly integrating technology with education.

Addressing Core Challenges:

  • Student Performance Management:

In RASS, teachers drive academic support by manually identifying academically struggling students through a user-friendly interface. Once identified, RASS provides personalized extra practice materials, focusing on objective questions like multiple-choice to reinforce key concepts. Teachers can set the questions they want the students to attempt, and they can monitor the students' progress, ensuring targeted and practical support within the classroom, fostering improved academic outcomes.

  • Homework Feedback System:

RASS introduces a robust homework feedback system that transcends conventional norms. This feature empowers teachers to provide detailed and timely feedback on assignments, aided by the teacher's ability to upload pictures of the part of the student's homework where errors were identified. Students and parents can access this feedback in real-time, establishing a collaborative feedback loop that enhances the overall learning process.

  • Resource Management:

Simplifying the often cumbersome process of resource management, RASS offers a dynamic platform for material updates. Through real-time notifications which the teachers can post, students receive timely information about the materials required for each class. This not only streamlines the learning experience but ensures a well-prepared and organized academic environment.

  • Discipline Monitoring:

RASS is committed to holistic development, incorporating a comprehensive discipline monitoring system. The school has a similar demeriting system in place, but the teacher we talked with expressed dissatisfaction as the current system and its inbuilt demerit reasons is not appropriate to the students of this branch. So, they want a similar system with inbuilt demerit reasons customized to their environment. Such a demerit system should aid in seamlessly tracking merit and demerit points, and teachers can record and explain point deductions for minor infractions. This feature instills a sense of responsibility and accountability, nurturing well-rounded individuals.

"Target Users"

The three target users we have identified are the teachers at the school, the students and their parents.

Teachers: Streamlined Classroom Management

Teachers using RASS gain a robust platform for efficient classroom management. The system simplifies tasks such as identifying academically struggling students, providing tailored support, tracking individual student progress and monitoring student behaviour. With an intuitive interface, RASS ensures teachers can focus on fostering an engaging learning environment.

Students: Personalized Learning Experience

For students, RASS transforms the learning experience into a personalized journey. By receiving targeted extra practice materials based on teacher identified weaknesses, students can reinforce their understanding of key concepts. The system also facilitates better communication, ensuring students are well-informed about the homework that is due, and the materials needed for each class. The students are also made aware about their conduct in school through the viewing of their merit points in the app's interface, leading to self-discipline and improvement.

Parents: Insightful Monitoring and Engagement

Parents play a crucial role in a student's educational journey, and RASS enhances their involvement. The system provides a structured homework feedback mechanism, allowing parents to monitor their child's progress and stay informed about homework assignments. With real-time updates on academic performance and resource requirements, parents can actively participate in their child's education.
